Privacy Policy

Kangaroo manages your bookmarks and stores extension preferences locally. It does not sell or transmit your bookmark library to Kangaroo. Optional site-health checks contact bookmarked sites directly, and Kangaroo sends a selected bookmark URL to Internet Archive only when you explicitly ask to open an archived copy.

Data stored locally

Kangaroo may save the following data in local extension storage:

  • Interface preferences, language, default folder, card density, and link behavior.
  • Local Trash records required for recovery.
  • Bookmark statistics, site-health results, check history, and daily check state, including checked URLs, response status, redirects, and failure details.
  • Feature settings such as visit counts and external-delete recovery.

Your bookmarks remain managed by your browser's bookmarks system. Removing Kangaroo does not remove your existing bookmarks.

Bookmark and site processing

Kangaroo reads and updates your bookmark tree so it can display folders, search links, create bookmarks, move deleted items into Trash, restore them, and remove items you explicitly choose to delete.

When site-health checks are enabled, Kangaroo sends HEAD requests, and when necessary GET requests, to bookmarked HTTP and HTTPS URLs. The destination sites receive those requests and may observe standard connection information; requests follow redirects. Kangaroo stores the checked URL, hostname, check time, response status, redirect destination, and failure details locally. When visit counts are enabled, it reads browser history to match visit information to bookmarked URLs. When you choose to open an archived copy, it sends that selected URL to Internet Archive to find a snapshot. These features are off until you grant their optional permissions or invoke the archive action.

Permissions

bookmarks
Displays, searches, creates, restores, and removes bookmarks in response to extension features and your actions.
storage
Saves preferences, Trash records, statistics, and health-check state locally.
favicon
Displays site icons for bookmark cards using the browser's built-in favicon service.
activeTab · sidePanel · alarms
When you open the popup to save the current page, reads that page's URL and title. The side panel displays Kangaroo, and alarms schedule local background maintenance work.
Optional: history, webRequest, site access
Used only for visit counts and optional site-health checks after you enable them and approve the permission prompt.
On demand: Internet Archive access
Requested only after you choose Open latest archived copy. The selected bookmark URL is sent to Internet Archive to look up an available snapshot.

Retention and control

Trash items expire according to Kangaroo's recovery window. You can permanently delete them sooner, disable optional features, remove optional permissions, or clear extension storage through your browser.

Changes

Updates to this policy will appear on this page with a revised date.
